Twelve students from the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind enjoyed a morning and afternoon of sailing instruction and fun learning activities at St. Augustine Sailing Enterprises Inc. The owners of the business, Rose Ann and Chuck Points, hosted the students for a day that included hands-on sailing instruction with actual time on the water, knot tying and a complimentary lunch.

The students also experienced handheld models of sailboats with moving parts. In the afternoon the students boarded four sailboats, along with the captains, school staff, sailing instructors and volunteers, and sailed the Intracoastal Waterway. Each student had the opportunity to spend a few minutes at the helm.

The program was part of the school’s Expanded Core Curriculum Summer Academy and included students 9 through 16 years old who are blind/visually impaired.

St. Augustine Sailing Enterprises is a certified American Sailing Association Training Facility at Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor. According to owner Rose Ann Points, the captains and crew members volunteered their time during the activities of the day.
