Captain / Instructor

Chris has been a part of St Augustine Sailing’s team for many years, as a captain and  sailing instructor. He holds a 50 GT US Coast Guard masters license with an Aux Sailing Endorsement.

Chris was awarded classification honors, by American Sailing, as one of the instructors of the year in 2020. This award is given to the top 1% of all active status ASA instructors as determined by instructor surveys that are submitted by students receiving instruction. Of the 2,405 instructors in 2020, Chris was honored. Becoming an ASA Outstanding Instructor of the Year requires great focus on being a dedicated sailing instructor for every student in every class, on every day that you teach week in, and month out!.

As a teen, he started sailing Sunfish, Flying Juniors and other small boats. He has sailed up the East coast as far as the Chesapeake and on the Pacific around LA and Catalina Island. In his words, “I love boats… they are part of my DNA…” He has a passion for the outdoors and enjoy hunting, kayaking, horseback riding, and gardening.  He also enjoys oil painting and sailboat restoration.
