As a navy brat, I spent my childhood traveling the world, living in incredible places like Iceland, Midway Island, and Alaska. My upbringing was far from ordinary; it was a journey that instilled in me a deep love for the sea. From an early age, I found myself drawn to the water, spending countless hours helping my father restore old wooden boats. Those formative years were filled with fishing, skiing, and an ever-growing fascination with the ocean.
Joining the Navy felt like a natural progression, allowing me to continue my adventures on the high seas. My time on an aircraft carrier broadened my horizons and deepened my appreciation for life on the water. After my service, I transitioned to a major overnight carrier, where I spent 30 years in various capacities, each role contributing to my diverse skill set and unwavering dedication.
In 2021, a close friend invited me to go sailing for a day with St Augustine Sailing. That single day marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. What started as a casual outing quickly transformed into a passionate pursuit. Over the next 2.5 years, I immersed myself in sailing, progressing from a novice to a USGC Captain. The support and guidance I received from the St Augustine Sailing School and Crew Program were instrumental in this journey.
Today, I proudly serve as a captain for St Augustine Sailing, and I am currently working towards my 50 GT Masters License. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is taking guests out on the water. I strive to make each sailing experience personable and memorable, sharing my love and knowledge of sailing with everyone I meet. Whether it’s a pleasant day sail, the Introductory Sailing course, or our more formal ASA curriculum where guests can earn certifications, I take pride in contributing to their sailing journeys.
When I’m not on the water, I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Hunting, fishing, and golfing are some of my favorite pastimes. Traveling with my wife and kids also brings me great joy, allowing us to explore new places and create lasting memories together. My life has been a continuous adventure, and I’m grateful for every moment that has led me to where I am today.
