INAUGURAL LADYBUG EVENT

A TRIUMPH ON THE WATER

In the heart of St. Augustine, the inaugural Ladybug Event hosted by St. Augustine Sailing proved to be a resounding success, bringing together sailing enthusiasts from all corners. The event was a delightful blend of showcasing new vessels, exhilarating races, insightful workshops, and delectable culinary experiences.

THE BOAT SHOW EXTRAVAGANZA

The festivities commenced with an exciting boat show, drawing eager crowds to explore the latest maritime offerings. Among the stars of the show were the sleek Jeanneau 410, the refined 2023 Jeanneau 440, and the elegant 2023 Jeanneau 490. Enthusiasts also had the opportunity to peruse brokerage vessels, including a pristine 2019 Jeanneau 440 and a classic 2007 Jeanneau 42DS, among others. George and Toste, ever the ambassadors of sailing, engaged attendees with discussions on charters, sailing lessons, and club memberships, adding a personal touch to the event.

HOISTING THE SAILS: THE LADYBUG EVENT RACE

As anticipation filled the air, captains and crews embarked on the Ladybug Race, a thrilling showcase of skill and camaraderie.  Mark Dixon oversaw the race with Lance as his assistant aboard Wind Dancer which Chuck Points, co-owner of St Augustine Sailing, captained.  Derk ,with Derk Burkin Photography, and his assistant Derek capture the images for the day. 

In the fiercely competitive Daysailers Class 1, Captain Lauren and her adept crew, Debbie & Karen, aboard Puffin clinched first place, closely followed by Captain Kim’s team , Lisa & Joan, on Ponce and Captain J’s crew, Tim & Ryan, on Nina, with mere minutes separating the top contenders.

Meanwhile, in the Cruiser Class 2 category, Captain Tim, Angie, and their seasoned crew, aboard Rock Star claimed victory, while Mon Cheri, helmed by Captain Dale with Kim & Eduardo, secured a commendable second place. The podium was rounded out by Captain Chris’s team with the Barry’s, with notable performances from Captain Nuri with John and Captain Rose Ann Points with her crew from Women On The Water (WOW!) including Iris, Tina, Heather & Sophia.

Puffin emerged as the champion of champions, earning the prestigious Ladybug Trophy for their exceptional performance. Ponce secured second place, with A La Mer sailing gracefully into third.

BEYOND THE WAVES: ENLIGHTENING WORKSHOPS AND CULINARY DELIGHTS

Amidst the excitement of the races, attendees immersed themselves in a series of enriching workshops and seminars, covering topics ranging from Diesel 101 to mastering the art of writing aboard. The culinary demonstration by Amberle captivated taste buds, offering a savory interlude to the day’s activities.

The event culminated in a sumptuous feast courtesy of Outer Banks Boil of St. Augustine, complemented by the delectable creations of Kristen’s Cupcake Cafe, providing a fitting finale to an unforgettable gathering. Lance Burkin’s craftsmanship shone through in the meticulously crafted trophies, while a lively silent auction added an extra layer of excitement to the proceedings.

The first Inaugural Ladybug Event by St. Augustine Sailing was not just a celebration of sailing; it was a testament to the enduring spirit of adventure, camaraderie, and passion that unites sailors from all walks of life. As the sun set on a day filled with laughter, competition, and shared experiences, it marked the beginning of a tradition set to sail into the hearts of enthusiasts for years to come.
