St. Augustine Sailing in Florida offers world-class American Sailing Association sailing instruction with the finest sailing courses in our area. We strive to hire only the best possible sailing instructors to give our customers top notch sailing courses. All St. Augustine Sailing instructors possess outstanding sailing experience, enthusiasm for sailing and a strong ability to help students learn. We are proud to offer only the best instruction possible for our students.

Our charter captains all hold USCG captain's licenses. You will find them professional - and personable!

Captain Alan Bossenger, owner of St. Augustine Sailing and SailTime Northeast Florida

Base Owner

Captain Alan Bossenger is owner of both St. Augustine Sailing and SailTime Northeast Florida. Alan was asked by the Marina Owners to take on ownership of the business. The sailing school has been in business for 20 years. Alan was a member of the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club in New Jersey while at Johnson & Johnson for 20 years. His brother owns the California Yacht Sales brokerage in San Diego. When Alan retired, he wanted to find a place to live that had character, which was close to boats and sailing, and had beautiful sailing waters with inlet access. When he found St. Augustine, Florida, he did not have to look any further.

Captain Jay Bliss

Captain Jay Bliss
Jay is ASA and USSA sailing-certified and earned his United States Coast Guard (USCG) license sailing from Canada to Cuba and Seattle to San Diego. Jay particularly enjoys teaching aboard our J-24's for their action, fast responses, and flexibility. As a board member and instructor also for SPARS (Sailors Paddlers And Rowers StAugustine) he is active in promoting sailing to our area youth.

 

Carol Ellis
Base Manager

Carol grew up beachside on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  After years of travel and work in business management, historic St. Augustine has been a welcome waterfront home. Carol has over a decade of experience in the marine industry from Administrator to Marina Manager, and maintains close ties to our local marine trade organizations. Certified in ASA 101, Carol has also owned power and is content just to be on, around or in the water!

Captain Lauren Johnson
Lauren grew up in Long Beach and Newport Beach, California. She grew up sailing to Catalina Island and racing Lasers out of the Long Beach Yacht Club. Before coming to St. Augustine she spent fifteen years in Washington DC. Once in St. Augustine she enrolled in ASA 101/103/104 sailing courses at St. Augustine Sailing before going on to get her Captain's license. Additionally, Captain Lauren is very active in The St. Augustine Yacht Club where she served two years on the Board of Governors and supports the local sailboat races in the area.

Captain Ben Meier
Friendly and knowledgeable, Ben is an experienced instructor in both power and sail from inland waters to passagemaking. He was a sailing coach and instructor for ocean racing yachts, and has been on the water on vessels of all sizes for over 40 years.

 

Captain Clyde Murphree
Clyde holds a USCG 100 ton Master's license and is an ASA certified Sailing Instructor. Aboard his Manta 42 sailing catamaran, Gypsy, he and his wife Linda (First Mate and also ASA certified), have sailed thousands of offshore miles during a two-year cruise from Florida to the Caribbean on to Venezuela and back to Florida.

Captain Bill Nesbitt

Captain Bill Nesbitt
Bill started sailing on the Jersey shore at the age of eleven sailing Woodpussys, Lightnings and Jet 14s. Bill has considerable experience ocean racing and charter fishing. Captain Bill has had his United States Coast Guard (USCG) license for the last twenty years and flew search and rescue for the USCG as well.

Captain Chuck Points

 Chuck has sailed Asia, Europe and a variety of different sailing environments from Lake Superior to the South China Sea. 
Chuck has been named an ASA Outstanding Instructor for 2007, earned from student ratings.

Captain Kim Walther
Kim has sailed much of the Eastern Coast from Maine to the Bahamas and Virgin Islands. She holds a 100-ton USCG offshore license with sailing and towing addendums. She enjoys all types of sailing equally - whether teaching, racing, cruising, or deliveries.

Captain Gary White

Captain Gary White
Gary grew up sailing on Lake Superior. He retired to Jacksonville, Florida, after years in computer service with Honeywell. He teaches sailing and often does boat deliveries.
