St. Augustine Sailing Enterprises
‘Sailing Made Simple!’

St. Augustine Sailing in Florida offers many team-building activities, specifically tailored to fit the needs of your organization. We believe that good equipment and good instructors are the key to any sporting activity.  Our instructors are all licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard and certified instructors through the American Sailing Association.

Team Sailing Instruction

This activity can be accomplished in four hours, and is ideal for small groups. We will put your group on a sailing yacht for a brief introduction to sailing. The instructor will begin with some basic ideas and terms that the guests need to know to sail the boat. Then, over the course of the day, each participant will cycle through the various crew positions on the boat, learning each one. Each crew member will have a chance to act as the helmsperson, giving commands and solving problems as they put the boat through several maneuvers. This short introduction to sailing, aboard a performance boat, will give the participants many opportunities to work together and use everyone’s skills to complete the exercise – all while having fun and taking in great scenery in the process!

Team-Building Exercise

This exercise is suitable for larger groups. This puts your group on multiple boats for an introduction to sailing and sailboat racing. This can be accomplished in five hours. The instructor will again give a brief introduction to sailing with each of the participants working the various positions on the boat. Then the boats will meet up for an informal race. The participants will choose their helmsperson and will be given instructions by the instructor. The race will give the participants a chance to practice their skills and work together to cross the finish line first.

Team-Building Regatta

This is the most involved exercise, and is suitable for any group. This activity lasts about six to eight hours. We will break into crews and board the boats for a sailing lesson, and introduction to racing. Afterwards, we might come back to the marina for lunch and a chalkboard discussion covering the starting sequence and racing rules, or see below for contacting caterers in our harbor, and have lunch on the water. After lunch everyone joins the crew back on board and heads to the starting line. This is also a prime opportunity for your organization to have a photographer on board the boat to get close pictures of your group. The crews will have to work together to read and interpret the course and sailing instructions, and then will have to use their newfound knowledge to win the race.

All of these events can be altered to fit your group’s needs. Lunch might be catered by either of our marina’s excellent restaurants – the FishTales Market (call 904-824-0900) or the Kingfish Grill (www.KingfishGrill.com).
